Walang Sugat is a 1898 zarzuela written by Filipino playwright Severino Reyes. Written during the Spanish colonial era, its themes reflect the many injustices Filipinos have suffered under the Spanish colonial rule. The play is about a couple, Tenyong and Julia, set near the end of the Philippine revolution, and the trials they face together.
Severino Reyes was a well-known playwright that also went under the pen name “Lola Basyang”. He wrote several notable works such as Mga Kwento ni Lola Basyang” and “Minda Mora”. He is known as the “Father of Tagalog plays” due to this.
How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife is a short story written by Manuel Arguilla. The short story won first prize in the Commonwealth Literary Contest in 1940. It is told through the perspective of Baldo, who is tasked by his father to escort his brother and his brother’s wife Maria home. The bulk of the story describes their trip home and how the trio act during this. The story carries themes such as family and change.
