A visual novel game is a game that is mainly text and story based, with added visual and interactivity elements. This allows players to experience a more interactive way to play through stories.
Kwentuko makes full use of this format by adding stunning visual elements with its sprite art and background art. Audio elements were also added such as background music and sound effects, which the team made use of copyright free assets.
In terms of interactivity, one of Kwentuko’s main interactive features is the ability to make choices throughout each story. However, because the team aims to keep a faithful adaptation of each story, which also means keeping the original ending intact, all choices do not impact the story and are meant to encourage the player to engage with the game more.
Another main interactive feature of the game is its glossary feature, which allows players to read the definitions of certain words that are not widely used.
Finally, the game will contain multiple functionality features. Players will be able to save and load throughout their playthrough of each story, using the multiple slots given.
An autoplay feature is also available for players to use which allows for the story to be clicked through without the player’s feedback. This feature will pause though, whenever the player is faced with a story choice, and continue afterwards.
Another notable feature is the history feature, which will allow the player to go back and read dialogue that has already been played through while the player is going through a story.
